Knitty.com Shroom Hat

Knitty's Shroom Hat from their Winter 2009 issue!

This hat is a (belated) Christmas gift for my good friend Sho (to go with her Braided Scarf).

This pattern is incredibly easy to work and it works up fast!

I'm not sure why they labeled it under "Tangy"...

could it be that I'm just that skilled of a knitter now?   :)

Rather than casting on with size 9 circulars (for the k2,p2 rib) and
then switching to the size 11's for the rest,
I just worked the whole thing with the size 11's which I like just fine.

I used up the last bit of the Lion Wool-Ease Thick & Quick in Taupe.

It seems to have come out ok, even though they advise that "Too Bulky"-yarn can change the shape of the hat:
"I highly recommend using Spud & Chloe Outer for the best results. Substitution in this case will be a bit tricky because Spud & Chloe Outer is technically a "super bulky," but its wool/cotton fiber content gives it unique properties. If you plan to use another yarn, swatch carefully: many other super bulkies will be too thick and not drape nicely. To get a similar slouchy effect with another yarn, you might try a bulky-weight yarn that is a bit lighter in weight than Outer but lofty enough to be knitted at a gauge looser than the ball band suggests."

This is good project for if you need something fast, and want to get through just one skein of yarn!
