For the life of me, I can not remember where I stumbled upon this cute Anthropologie Ball of Yarn Candle.

I'm assuming it's one of the many knittin' blogs I follow but I can't find it anywhere now!

Anyways!  :)

It's cute, huh?

Ok... How cute is this Halloween Wreath!?!?!

This wreath is courtesy of
(I came across it through the CasaSugar site)

This is so cute and I'd love to try and make it!

It comes at a perfect time as,

I have a cute Fall wreath from Paper Source but I can not find it anywhere!

So this might be a nice Halloween wreath, til I find my Fall wreath.

Whisk Kid's Rainbow Cake!

So, aside from knitting... one of my other true loves is baking (and dessert in general!)  :)

Well, when my good friend Di watched Martha Stewart's "Color Show" Episode and saw this clip of Whisk Kid's Rainbow Cake, of course she immediately thought of me as:
  1. I LOVE dessert and
  2. I LOVE COLOR!!!
For me, the more colorful, the better!

Must.  Make.  This.  Cake.  ASAP!!!

Thank God Ms. Martha posted that clip online 'cause, as you know, El Hub and I do not have TV...

No.  It's not that we don't have A tv.

We have a TV.  It's just hooked up to one of our MANY laptops.  We have no cable (ie no regular channels... no channels period!)

Anyway...

:)

Along with this here knittin' blog, I also had (or have) a baking blog (as well as a Moustache blog)...

Oh yeah... and a book blog!

But check out Whisk Kid's blog aka Kaitlin Flanner  (it's pretty much fabulous)...

and check out her clip on the Martha Stewart show!

Alright...

You guys know I rarely rant but...

I was totally confused yesterday while trying to fill out my portion of that crazy Census!

Question # 5 I totally get.

But what about # 6!

There's no box for me!

What's my race?

My dad is from Mexico.  My mom is from here...

So where do I fall?

I really honestly wasn't sure what to put.

And it wasn't just me!

Lot's of others were confused about it.

Bill Handel (from KFI) was saying he was triple confused cause, he was born somewhere in South America.

But he became a US citizen.  But he's like Jewish.

So he was like totally confused!

Honestly, I know it's not a big deal.

It's just kinda odd.

I find these things super interesting now that I'm super interested in Identity Politics in Art Theory with artists like Adrian Piper and Felix Gonzalez-Torre in mind.

What's my box?!

Suss Knits!

OMG!  I got to meet Suss!

My good friend Sho and I went to L.A. Monday for a nice afternoon lunch at Milk.
I almost fell out of the car when we drove by the Suss shop, which is just a couple of doors down!

After our nice lunch, we took a walk over to the Suss shop and there she was!

On the phone!

:)

Anyway... sorry if you already know this but I didn't know that she's not selling yarn and patterns anymore!
:-(

We had a nice chat with Suss (she's super cool) and she said she's just on to different things now.

She's focused on her shop and selling these beautiful sweaters and accessories.

Gorgeous sweaters and mobius scarves in those beautiful neutrals that I LOVE!

Her shop is neat cause it has a front part where the clothes are hanging (and a couch to relax on while flipping through her pattern books!).  :)

The shop also has a back part with beautiful threads and machinery.  You can tell she does her work there!
I am so glad that I got to meet her!

Fortunately or Unfortunately, I do get a bit star-struck fairly easily...
So I rambled on like a crazy daisy about how I have 3 of her books and about how my very first knitting project was one of her knit kits for a poncho (back when ponchos were ALL the craze!)...

:-D

If you have a chance, check out Suss's shop at 7350 Beverly Boulevard, between Martel & Fuller.

And if you have a chance, pop into Milk for a slice of their yummy Blue Velvet Cake!

And if you're lucky, maybe even get to be filmed for a Food Network episode!

March is National Craft Month!!!

Yay!

According to the Lion Blog, March is National Craft Month!
See full blog post here...

I have to admit, I haven't been fully knitting lately.

That's to say... It's not that I haven't been knitting.

I'm just not really knitting any one thing or anything exciting.

I'm a bit scattered these days.

Too many ideas and not enough just jumping in to start!

Since March is National Craft Month, maybe it's time for me to just pick one thing and jump into making it!

:)

Happy Crafting!

Too Cool for School...

It finally came!!!

After 17 years of working on this (no, seriously. 17 freakin' years), I actually am a College Graduate!
as I hold this piece of paper, I think about what this means...

another person has graduated college.

In Art History we talk a lot of Identity Politics. Groups of things and groups within groupings.

Similar to Set Concepts in Math.

Artists, like Adrian Piper, incorporate Identity Politics into their Conceptual art, initiating conversation in what it's like to be from this group or that.

So then I think about what group(s) I fall into as a new grad.

So today another _______ becomes a college grad.
  • Another American (born & raised!)
  • Another woman
  • Another 30-something (Yes... 17 years later... That's what partying and travelling the world in your 20's will do to you.)
  • Another married person
  • Another Hispanic half 'n half (more Oreo than not. My German/Irish hubby is more Mexican than I am!)
  • Another damn Art History major
It's all wonderful, but...

So now what?

:)

Yarn Inventory!

Oh geez...

I knew I had alotta random yarn, but come on...
When my good friend Sho mentioned that her cute grandma needed some dark yarn for projects to keep her busy, I said, "Don't buy any! She can have some of mine!"

I'd been wanting to go through my yarn anyway so it seemed perfect!

I forgot I had two bins of random yarn (I thought it was only one!).

Lot's a pink in that there bin. Must be from when I was first starting out and perfecting the 'scarf'...

Oh geez... what is this? Why do I have a bag full of Sugar 'n Cream?

And why is my Mannerism/Reformation Art History paper in this other yarn bin?

ugh...
