Whisk Kid's Rainbow Cake!

So, aside from knitting... one of my other true loves is baking (and dessert in general!)  :)

Well, when my good friend Di watched Martha Stewart's "Color Show" Episode and saw this clip of Whisk Kid's Rainbow Cake, of course she immediately thought of me as:
  1. I LOVE dessert and
  2. I LOVE COLOR!!!
For me, the more colorful, the better!

Must.  Make.  This.  Cake.  ASAP!!!

Thank God Ms. Martha posted that clip online 'cause, as you know, El Hub and I do not have TV...

No.  It's not that we don't have A tv.

We have a TV.  It's just hooked up to one of our MANY laptops.  We have no cable (ie no regular channels... no channels period!)

Anyway...

:)

Along with this here knittin' blog, I also had (or have) a baking blog (as well as a Moustache blog)...

Oh yeah... and a book blog!

But check out Whisk Kid's blog aka Kaitlin Flanner  (it's pretty much fabulous)...

and check out her clip on the Martha Stewart show!

Debbie Bliss Sandal Booties - Booties, Blankets & Bears

 Yay!

I finished the Left Bootie Sandal and this time around, I got smart about it!

I had such a hard time seeing the row that was supposed to be purled with 'row 20' that this time, I weaved a little random yarn through my 'row 13' and it really helped!

As you know, I have to write things out or I get confused real fast!

So for me, this pattern is broken down like this:
row 12 - Rep 2nd row (k to end, working k1 tbl into ea yo of previous row)

Then these are the 7 from the "Beg with a k row, work 7 rows in St st":
row 13 - k
row 14 - p
row 15 - k
row 16 - p
row 17 - k
row 18 - p
row 19 - k

row 20 = Then "Next row [P next st tog with corresponding st 7 rows below] to end"
So, here I am purling "rows 13 & 20" together:

After the two rows have been purled together
(before I pulled the random yarn out):

Seems ok, huh?

I hope I haven't made this even more confusing.  This was really helpful to me.

It just helped me to see a bit more clearly!  :)

Here are the other colors I'm using for the Box of Booties!
Should be ok, since we don't know the gender, huh?

Alright...

You guys know I rarely rant but...

I was totally confused yesterday while trying to fill out my portion of that crazy Census!

Question # 5 I totally get.

But what about # 6!

There's no box for me!

What's my race?

My dad is from Mexico.  My mom is from here...

So where do I fall?

I really honestly wasn't sure what to put.

And it wasn't just me!

Lot's of others were confused about it.

Bill Handel (from KFI) was saying he was triple confused cause, he was born somewhere in South America.

But he became a US citizen.  But he's like Jewish.

So he was like totally confused!

Honestly, I know it's not a big deal.

It's just kinda odd.

I find these things super interesting now that I'm super interested in Identity Politics in Art Theory with artists like Adrian Piper and Felix Gonzalez-Torre in mind.

What's my box?!

Debbie Bliss Sandal Booties - Booties, Blankets & Bears

Well..

On top of the Bathing Suit that I'm knitting and the Crochet Throw that I'm working on...

I'm also making a pair of baby booties!

(NO!  Not for me!  Come on, people!)

These are for hubby's cube-mate and his wife!

I'm not sure what they're having so I'm sticking with soft neutrals.

One skein of the Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino should give a pair of booties, which is nice!

Um... I'm sorry, what?

You want me to purl row 20 and row 13 together?

Sure!  No prob!
(This stitch made me a lil nervous at first but it actually came out really nice!)

:)

I'm doing the Box of Booties idea from this book.

Should be cute, huh?

So teeny tiny...

I've come a long way from size 19 needles and Big & Chunky yarn for Twinkle projects...

In Progress: Mesh One-Piece Bathing Suit - Sexy Little Knits by Ashley Paige

Moving right along...

I'm still working my Mesh Bathing Suit!

So far, so good!

The mesh is easy to work.

It's just a simple pattern of yo and K2tog on the right side (purl on the wrong).

 Ok... I dunno why but,

after finishing the bottoms, they have you cast off and then pick up the sts across to start the Mesh pattern.

I'm sure there is actually a real logical practical reason...

But I dunno what it could be (cause, as you know, I am neither 'logical' nor 'practical').  :)

All I know is, I'm not a big fan of the 'pick up the sts'...

Oddly enough, my pick up came out pretty decent on this one!

It looks nice and clean!  :)

Um, I still don't see how my buns are supposed to fit in there...
No, seriously...

Weekend in Stockholm Throw - Debbie Stoller (Stitch 'n Bitch)

So, speaking of Debbie Stoller...

I am having a bit of craft-ADD and am now also working on her Weekend in Stockholm throw.

With her new yarn, of course!

The first set of 6 squares are worked in
Meadow, Mediterranean, Peony and Little Lamb.

So here's my first set of 6 squares...

There are 6 rounds total here.

The first 2 rounds are knit in Meadown,
the 3rd round in Mediterranean,
the 4th in Peony
and 5th &6th in Little Lamb!

I've completed the first set of 6 and am now starting the 2nd set.

There's a lot to go but this works pretty quickly!

This pattern is fairly easy.  I was a bit confused in the beginning but, what else is new, right?  ;-)

With a little help from my mom, I was able to figure things out and have been quickly moving along ever since!

I am still working on my bathing suit (which I'll post on next), but I'm focused on this throw...

I don't wanna lose momentum on this one.

I don't want it to become another UFO!!!
